Importing with JPN
Setting a realistic budget
You can view the available cars in Japan using our "Find me a Jimny" page. For dealer cars we show an accurate UK all in price (OTR = On the Road).
We can also buy via auction where the prices can be a few % cheaper than the wholesale network we use to secure dealer cars. Often dealers have 6 month old stock with less than 50km on the clock for discounted prices so don't rule out a dealer car thinking it will be way more money!
Searching in Japan
Once you know the model you are looking for you can search in Japan using the "Find me a Jimny" page. The Jimny comes in 3 levels of spec (XG, XL, XC) while the larger engined Jimny Sierra comes in 2 levels of spec (JL, JC).
As we are limited to one picture of each car feel free to drop us a Whatsapp any time of day and we'll happily send you all the photos and are always more than willing to help with advice.
Once you are ready to take the plunge we'll talk you through the financials and the payment plan (always broken into 4). We'll also need to see your driving licence via a 1-time Whatsapp photo so we can register the car in your name when it arrives in the UK.
Shipping
Congratulations! We've secured your Jimny. What happens next?
We have a Japanese Yen client account so receive the money from you in £ sterling. This guarantees the best rate and enables us to book the rate the moment the car is secured so you aren't open to fluctuations in the exchange rate.
While the payment is clearing we have the car transported to our secure facility for inspection, cleaning and photography.
We ship from either Sakaisenboku or Kobe with Hoegh Autoliners using Ro-Ro (Roll on, Roll off) shipping. The time on water can be up to 8 weeks. All vessels land at Port of Tyne (Newcastle) just a few miles from our facility in Gateshead.
Once we have a shipping manifest, vessel name and departure date we can track the progress of the vessel online using marinetraffic.com.
Your car is fully insured in Japan, when in transit it is fully covered by Marine Insurance to the full value of the car, the car is also covered by us once in the UK.
Nissan Shipping Agency (NSA) is the appointed clearing agent and will then calculate the duty and VAT payable to HMRC as well as the dock fee. This is paid directly to them via Bank Transfer.
Clearance and Prep
Once the balance has been settled with NSA and JPN have been appointed as the party collecting from the docks we arrange with NSA to collect and drive the car back to our facility just a few miles away.
Note: You cannot register any imported car in the UK with the DVLA without the Turn Team at HMRC authenticating the duty and VAT paperwork and amount paid. This is known as the NOVA. The DVLA will refuse to assign a registration number without correct payment being made.
The final prep costs are payable directly to us which includes all the parts and labour to prepare and get the Jimny through an IVA Test.
Ceramic coating can also be applied for an additional £210 inc VAT and we also offer trackers. UK Touchscreen stereo with Sat Nav is an additional £450.00 inc VAT.
The DVLA can take a few weeks to issue a registration, once this has been issued you'll receive a copy of the V5 in the post. Forward on the registration to us and we'll have plates made up to your requirements.
You can then also inform your insurance company of the registration and arrange a collection date with us. We can also offer delivery.
